Government of Canada

The Public Works and Government Services Canada is the Canadian federal government's real estate broker and, as such, is responsible for appraising properties across the country. The Appraisals Directorate, which is part of the Office Accommodation and Real Estate Services section of the department's Real Property Services Branch, provides independent and impartial appraisal services to all federal government departments, agencies and Crown corporations.

Environmental Bankers Association (EBA)

The Environmental Bankers Association is a non-profit association that represents the financial services industry, including banks, insurers, and asset management firms. Its members are composed of lending institutions, insurers, environmental engineers, consultants, and attorneys. The EBA was established in 1994 in response to heightened sensitivity to environmental risk issues, and the need for environmental risk management and due diligence policies and procedures in financial institutions.

Federal Reserve Board

Founded in 1913, the Federal Reserve System is the central bank of the US. Duties of the Fed include supervising and regulating banking situations to ensure safely and soundness of the nation’s banking and financial system and to protect the credit rights of consumers.

The Basel Committee on Banking Supervision

The Basel Committee was established by the central bank Governors of the Group of Ten countries at the end of 1974.  It has about thirty technical working groups and task forces, which also meet regularly. The Committee's members come from Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom and United States.

Office of the Comptroller of the Currency

The OCC was established in 1863 as a bureau of the U.S. Department of the Treasury.  The OCC charters, regulates, and supervises all national banks.

Office of Thrift Supervision

The OTS is the primary regulator of all federal and many state-chartered thrift institutions, which include savings banks and savings and loan associations. The OTS was established as an office of the Department of the Treasury on August 9, 1989.

Securities and Exchange Commission

The primary mission of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is to protect investors and maintain the integrity of the securities markets.   The SEC requires public companies to disclose meaningful financial and other information to the public.

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)

Although the EPA has a variety of departments a recent development has been the Environmental Accounting Project, which is in line with the valuation profession’s outreach into environmental assessment and accounting practices.

Housing and Urban Development (HUD)

HUD was founded in 1965, but its history extends back to the National Housing Act of 1934. HUD’s mission includes: working to create, rehabilitate and maintain the nation's affordable housing; enforcing the nation's fair housing laws; spurring economic growth in distressed neighborhoods; providing housing assistance for low-income persons and helping local communities meet their development needs.
